Florence Lucile Tanner West, 90 - Spencer

Florence Lucile Tanner West, 90, died July 15, 2012 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

A life-long Spencer, West Virginia resident, she was a daughter of the late Minter Jackson and Adda Mae Parrill Tanner. She worked at the Pentagon during World War Two, was a one-room schoolteacher, and a wonderful farm wife and mother of five. She was also the great-granddaughter of Samuel Tanner, the original founder of Spencer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Otis West, Sr.; three sisters, Garnet Crawford, Sylvia Boyer, and Irleen Bull; and one brother, DeWitt Tanner.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary and Jerry King and Pam and Bill Shumate, both of Spencer, Debbie and Michael Parker of DeSota, Missouri, and Kathy and Tom Clevenger of Bridgeport; one son, James Otis West, Jr.; four grandchildren, Robert and Tom King, Jasmine Shumate and Matthew Parker; and three great-grandchildren, Brian, Andrew, and Kyan King.

Service is 11:00 am Friday, July 20, 2012 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer. Burial will be in the Looney Cemetery in Walton, West Virginia. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Speed United Methodist Church, c/o Freda Scott 121 Speed Road, Spencer WV 25276.
