A Braxton County woman who embezzled about $26,000 from a postal workers union has been sentenced to five years probation.

Pamela Hinzman,58, of Frametown, was sentenced to five years probation and a $100 special assessment in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Hinzman was charged in January by a federal grand jury for embezzlement from the American Postal Workers, AFL-CIO Local 1850 in Parkersburg.

The indictment alleges the woman embezzled approximately $26,000, securities, property and other assets of the labor organization for her own use.

Hinzman served as treasurer of the union and was responsible for maintaining the union's books and records, preparing checks, co-signing checks and making financial reports, said court records.

The incidents happened over a two-year period beginning in September 2007 through November 2009.

She entered a guilty plea to the charges March 8.
