An elderly Spencer man who went missing in a wooded area near Walton has been found.

He had been missing for more than 24 hours and was found Wednesday after an all-day search by authorities, family and neighbors.

The Roane County Sheriff's Office says William Nichols, 77, went into the woods about 1 p.m. Tuesday with his dog to hunt for Yellow Root.

Family members said Nichols was hearing impaired.

Police said Nichols was doing exactly what he went into the woods to do, looking for Yellow Root.
