Hard times has caused a consistent theft of steel and cooper wire in West Virginia.

Theives damaged and stole government property from Burnsville Lake, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is asking for the public's help finding them.

Resource Manager Rick Pingley says the metal pipe access gate below the old Mount Hope Church leading to the Weston-Gauley Bridge Turnpike Trail between Orlando and Walkersville was cut and stolen.

The crime resulted in more than $2,500 in losses and damages.

Pingley said there is a strong possibility that the gate was stolen to be sold as scrap.
