WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Lumberport Police Chief Shoots 18-Year-Old, Arrests In Home Invasion Murder

POLICE CHIEF SHOOTS KNIFE WIELDER -The Harrison County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting involving Lumberport Police Chief Jeff Beach.

Beach shot 18-year-old Scott Sorge three times in the upper body after he allegedly brandished a knife.

He is in critical condition in Ruby Hospital in Morgantown.

WBOY-TV says Sorge, a recent graduate from from Lincoln High School, enrolled at A-B College, was reportedly "distraught."

WBOY-TV says Sorge approached the Lumberport Volunteer Fire Department around midnight Saturday.

Witnesses said he was crying and that Chief Beach tried to talk to him. Upon asking Sorge to show his hands, Sorge brandished a knife, officials said.

Sorge proceeded with "aggressive actions," according to Lt. Pat McCarty of the Harrison County Sheriff's Department. Witnesses said they heard warning shouts.

"The men ended up in a confrontation," Lt. McCarty said.

Lumberport residents had mixed reactions to the shooting, according to WBOY-TV.

ARRESTS IN HOME INVASION MURDER - Wayne County deputies have made an arrest in the murder of a father that happened Thursday night.

18-year-old Dylan Alexander Jarrells and 26-year-old Willie Jay Copley have been charged with first degree murder and armed robbery.

After arriving on an ATV, police believe the two broke into the home of 46-year-old James Spurlock, shooting and killing him.

Spurlock's young son was playing with friends across the street when the crime happened.
