James R. "Jim" Harold, 80 - Newton

James R. "Jim" Harold, 80, of Newton, died at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, May 27, 2012, at his home.

He was born August 5, 1931 at Newton, a son of the late Kelly S. and Ethel G. Keen Harold. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashlee Elmore; and a sister, Mildred Harold.

Jim was a farmer and a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the I.U.O.E., Local 132, U.M.W.A., Local 17 and the U.S.W.A., Local 14614. Also, he was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Elana and a 50 year member of the Linden Lodge No. 83, A.F. & A.M., Linden.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years and five months, Marion Smith Harold; a daughter, Deedrea Harold of Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, William James "Bill" and Judy Harold of Newton; a special nephew, Neal Vineyard of Newton; step daughters, Rita Blevins and Shirley Bays both of Newton; step son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Julie Bays of Corpus Christi, TX.

Eight grandchildren, Joan Bays, Tad Legg, Jennifer Bays, Amy Carder, Tara Bumgardner, Erica Ward, Linzie Harold and Audry Harold; three great grandchildren, Emma Dever, Cass Carder and Madelyn Ward; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith and Bill Jarvis of Newton and Betty and Don Tenney of Madison, OH; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kelly and Carol Harold of Brunswick, OH, Charles and Martha Harold of Glenville and Paul and Ruth Harold of Newton; a sister-in-law, Madlyn Backus of Newton.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ed Young officiating. Burial, with Masonic graveside rites, will be in the Harold Cemetery, Uler. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
