STATE LOSING US POSTAL PROCESSING CENTERS - Most Rural Post Offices Hours Cut

(05/19/2012)
U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller have asked the U.S. Postal Service to give fair treatment to West Virginia as it moves ahead with closing dozens of mail processing centers nationwide.

It appears WV is losing at least four processing centers.

Under the plan, mail processing operations in Bluefield and Parkersburg will be moved to Charleston. Operations in Clarksburg will be transferred to Charleston and Pittsburgh, and operations in Petersburg will be moved to Johnstown, Pa.

Rather than face closure, most of the state's rural post offices have had their hours cut, many offices will be open two to four hours daily.

Rockefeller says before the decision was made, the US Postal Service should have first slashed executive bonuses.
