WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Man Kills Son's Estranged Wife In Wal-Mart Lot, Charleston Intruders Shoot-Stab Man

(04/21/2012)
WAL-MART PARKING LOT SHOOTING - Morgantown police say fifty-four-year-old Larry Lynn Mitchell of Shinnston has been charged in the shooting death of his son's estranged wife in the parking lot of Morgantown's Wal-Mart.

Mitchell is being held at the Doddridge Regional Jail for killing 29-year-old Shannon Stafford, also known as Shannon Mitchell of Bruceton Mills.

Police officers found one group of people surrounding the victim and another detaining Mitchell who had attempted to leave the scene in his truck.

Police said shoppers grabbed the man and restrained him.

Police say Mitchell shot Stafford several times as she sat in her vehicle, and continued shooting after she got out, reportedly related to an ongoing family dispute, the apparent motive for the shooting.

CHARLESTON MAN SHOT-STABBED - A Charleston man was shot and stabbed after four alleged burglars entered his home in Charleston's South Hills neighborhood.

Alex Franklin, a former banker and antique shop owner, lives at the residence with his son, Cabell, 22, who was taken to a Charleston hospital.

The intruders reportedly shot a man in the leg and stabbed him in the back.

Police said the suspects are men in their early 20s who were wearing hooded sweatshirts. One was wearing a red bandanna over his face.
