Herbert Philip "Sako" Sussman, 77 - Spencer

Herbert Philip "Sako" Sussman, 77, of Spencer, West Virginia, died March 17, 2012, at his home. He was born July 7, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ, a son of the late Harry and Jennie Sussman. Sako was a chef and a painter. He received his training in art and traveled extensively around the United States in his younger years selling his work as a paint and print artist. In 1983, he moved to Spencer, to live a simple, sustainable life close to the land, gardening organically and using nature as inspiration for his water color paintings. Sako is survived by four brothers, Seymour, David, Sidney and Gerald; a sister, Muriel; six nieces and eight nephews. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and remember his life was held Monday evening, April 16 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer.
