Don Tanner, 73 - Spencer

Don Tanner, 73, a father, brother and friend, of Spencer, died at 7:53 am, Friday, March 9, 2012, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer, after a long illness.

He was born October 2, 1938 in Spencer, a son of the late Dewey and Kathleen Walls Tanner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carpenter Tanner; one son, Charles Eddie Tanner; three sisters, Mildred Richmond, Wilda McClung and Dorothy Sharp; two brothers, Grover Junior Tanner and William Preston "Bill" Tanner.

Survivors include two sons, Don Hayden Tanner of Spencer and Preston Lee Tanner of Parkersburg; step children, Elizabeth Ann Davis, Willie Carpenter, Teddy Carpenter, Jackie Jarvis, Dottie Marks and Robena Williams; four brothers, Orval Tanner and Dewey Tanner both of Spencer, Jack L. Tanner of Pomroy, OH and Roger Lee Tanner of Akron, OH; three sisters, Ruby E. Patty of Leroy, Shirley Ann Keener of Spencer and Rose M. Heath of Front Royal, VA; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

Don was a carpenter by trade. He had worked at B&W, in Ohio and BPB in Spencer. He was a Full Gospel Christian. He will be in our hearts forever.

A graveside service will be held Monday, March 12 at 2:00 pm in the Tanner Cemetery, Colt Ridge, Spencer, with the Rev. Jake Herman officiating. There will be no visitation.
