Dorothy Irene Rhoades, 73 - Glenville

Dorothy Irene Rhoades, age 73, of Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Emergency Room, in Weston, West Virginia, following a unexpected illness.

Born January 4, 1939, in Calhoun County, daughter of the late Harlan and Louise Pratt Hough.

Dorothy was a graduate of Glenville High School, graduate of Glenville State College, and received her Master's Degree from West Virginia University. Before entering the education phase of her life, she first worked for the Department of Health and Human Resources. She began her teaching career where she taught at Sand Fork, Tanner, and Gilmer County High School. She was principal at Tanner Elementary and then principal at Troy Elementary where she retired July 31, 2000, after a distinguished career of 31 years.

She was currently a member of the Gilmer Co. Board of Education, where she deeply cared and was dedicated to the board for the betterment of the students and the school system. She was a member of the West Virginia Retired Teachers Association and attended the Presbyterian church. Dorothy loved to travel and sports, but most of all she loved caring for her family.

On August 21, 1956 she was united in marriage to Fermen L. Rhoades, who survives at their Route 5, East, home.

Surviving are 2 sons, Fermen L. "Skip" Rhoades II and wife Laura of Glenville and Jack M. Rhoades of Vienna WV; 1 grandson, Kevin Rhoades of Glenville; 1 son-in-law, Pat Stalnaker of Glenville and her grand puppy, Hemi, whom she loved dearly; 1 brother, Donald Hough of Pennsboro WV; 2 sisters, Helen McClain of Ravenswood WV and Patty Shaver of The Villages, Florida.

Along with her parents Dorothy was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Robin L. Rhoades Stalnaker on November 10, 2007.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 3, 2012 at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville, WV with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
