NO CALHOUN GROUP VOLUNTEERING FOR 'MAKE IT SHINE'

(02/24/2012)
West Virginia residents who want to clean up their state have about a week to register with the Department of Environmental Protection for the "Make It Shine" program.

So far, no Calhoun group has taken on the program.

People have until March 1 to sign up for the Make It Shine Statewide Cleanup, which will take place in the first two weeks of April.

The program is co-sponsored by the state Division of Highways.

It will provide cleanup materials, waste hauling and landfill fees to community groups that volunteer to clean up state streams or public lands.

Last year, more than 3,800 West Virginians participated in the clean-up.

They removed 150 tons of trash and 4,200 tires from the state's landscape.
