MAN HOLDS MOTHER HOSTAGE - A Parkersburg man has been arrested after an apparent standoff, holding his 69-year-old mother at knife point at the top of a stairway.

Officers with the S.W.A.T. and Hostage Negotiation and other police officers responded to the call.

David Courtney was eventually tased by an officer to keep him from attacking the woman, then ripping the probes from his chest and stomach, pushing his mother down the stairs.

Reports say he struck an officer and then barricaded himself in a bedroom.

After two hours, a S.W.A.T. team was able to get Courtney to surrender and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

State Police Cpl. A.S. Cooper responded to a stabbing complaint in Matoaka, saying Floyd M. Bennett Jr., 53, stabbed his brother, Basil E. Bennett, 48, multiple times before fleeing.

Paramedics took Basil Bennett by chopper to CAMC General Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Police caught Floyd Bennett and charged him with malicious wounding. He was being held in Southern Regional Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail.
