CALHOUN RESIDENTS FEATURED IN COLLEGE FOUNDATION PROMOTION |

GSC freshmen Amara Yoak and Quentin Murphy are Glenville, WV - Glenville State College freshmen Amara Yoak and Quentin Murphy are currently being featured in the latest advertising and outreach campaign for the College Foundation of West Virginia. CFWV offers free resources to help students plan, apply, and pay for college. "This was a wonderful experience, and I am proud to be a part of it. I hope this encourages people to pursue higher education. I will never forget being part of this campaign," said Yoak, a GSC freshman from Grantsville, West Virginia (Calhoun County). "I didn't realize the importance of this campaign until after I was selected. We traveled to the West Virginia capitol in Charleston and participated in two days of filming and photo shoots with other students from across the state. This campaign proves that college is a reality no matter where you come from," said Murphy, a GSC freshman from Mount Zion, West Virginia (Calhoun County). The students are being featured in television commercials, online and print advertisements, and billboards throughout this year. The ads are on West Virginia television and radio stations, cable channels, Pandora radio (geo-targeted for WV listeners), and online news sites as well as in nearly twenty movie theaters. The CFWV held casting calls at schools that had a high rate of student participation in CFWV's 'College Application and Exploration Week' program. At Calhoun County High School, the entire senior class applied to college during College Application and Exploration Week. "They were very outgoing and charismatic - they seemed like a natural fit for our campaign," said Kennedy. "The campaign is intended to inform West Virginia students of these resources and encourage individuals of all ages to pursue postsecondary education," said Jessica Kennedy, Communications Manager for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The CFWV initiative is coordinated by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, in conjunction with the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education, the West Virginia Department of Education, and the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts.
