(02/04/2012)
The Board of Directors of the Sisters of Saint Joseph Charitable Fund, a sponsored ministry of the Congregation of Saint Joseph, announced today that Sister Jane Harrington, Executive Director, will retire effective June 30, 2012.

Under Sister Jane's guidance the SSJ Charitable Fund has made more than 700 grants totaling over $11 million dollars. Those grants have been pivotal in bringing additional millions in state, federal, and local support to the 11 county area served by the Charitable Fund.

Tom Whittier of Spencer, WV, current Board Chair said, "We will miss Sister Jane tremendously. Her ability to organize Grants Review and Board processes has been outstanding. The Board has been touched by her passion to improve health, her understanding of those in poverty and her dedication to social justice. We will miss her moral leadership most of all."

Under Sister Jane's watch literally thousands of children and adults have had some aspect of their lives improved. Over these 14 years, the SSJ Charitable Fund's philanthropic priorities have been Health Ministry, Healthy Lifestyles, Oral Health, and Health Equity as ways to partner with local communities in promoting health and wellness. In each of these areas, Sister Jane has kept the Charitable Fund at the forefront among funders.

Sister Jane has positioned the SSJ Charitable Fund for maximum impact upon health in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Her vision, forceful advocacy and real leadership have given the Charitable Fund increased recognition and influence throughout West Virginia and Southeast Ohio.

Whittier further stated that in accord with the SSJCF's written succession policy, a search committee is being organized and will set up procedures to receive applications for a new Executive Director. Those interested should consult the SSJ Charitable Fund's website at www.ssjcharitablefund.org
