WIRT MAN ARRESTED FOR ABDUCTION BY RITCHIE STATE POLICE

A Wirt County man is behind bars, after allegedly trying to kidnap his ex-wife. 35 year-old Shawn Ashby of Palestine has been charged with abduction of the woman. Police say Ashby allegedly threatened to kidnap and rape the woman early Saturday morning, allegedly forcing the woman into his car. The victim called 911 around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, telling dispatchers that Ashby called her multiple times and threatened to kidnap and rape her, according to authorities. The criminal complaint says two hours later, Ashby went to the victim's house and forced her into his car. Troopers found Ashby and the victim on Route 47, with a .22 caliber pistol and baseball bat recovered from Ashby's car, according to authorities. State Police in Ritchie County are investigating. He is being held in North Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bond.
