FIRE STRIKES DOWNTOWN CLAY - Four Businesses Destroyed

(06/14/2002)
A 5 a.m. (Thursday) fire has destroyed four Clay businesses, sending flames 100 feet high over Main Street, according to a Clay Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson.

Even though the Clay VFD was quickly on the scene, fire spread through the aging wood framed structures.

The law offices of Kevin Duffy and Wayne King, located in a two-story building across the street from the Clay courthouse have been destroyed.

A thrift store and the Clay water company office have also burned to the ground.

A spectator told The Hur Herald the NAPA auto parts store was damaged, but fireman saved the structure.

The fire, while under control, is still burning at the time of this report.
