By Christina Miller

The Calhoun County Farm Bureau held its first meeting in 2012 on Monday, January 16 at the Grantsville Fire Hall.

Guest speakers were Daisy Fryman, Calhoun-Gilmer Extension agent, JoEllen Blair, and Joe Messineo. Special guests were Eric Thomason, Ralph and JoEllen Blair and Alvin Engelke.

Dean Miller, President of Calhoun Farm Bureau discussed the annual state WV Farm Bureau meeting held in November 2011 at Flatwoods WV. Also, discussed was the "WV Farm Bureau Day at the State Legislature" and "Taste of West Virginia" to be held on February 14, 2012. Forestry and Farm related exhibits will be open from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Upper Rotundra of the Capitol with a reception following 5:00-7:30 p.m.

JoEllen Blair spoke about helping feed families who stay at the Ronald McDonald Houses in West Virginia. The houses serve as temporary residences for families of children who are in the hospital. By donating to the Ronald McDonald House you can give families comfort and security during a particularly difficult time in their life.

All individuals and businesses are encouraged to help the Calhoun County Farm Bureau by donating to the Food Check Out Week, February 19-25. Please send your check or money order to Calhoun County Farm Bureau c/o Christina Miller 1105 Annamoriah Road, Creston WV 26141 before February 25.

You may also donate to the Ronald McDonald House by collecting tabs from the top of aluminum cans. This year the Calhoun Farm Bureau will be collecting throughout the county at different businesses and schools and at the Wood Festival.

The money collected as well as the money that will come from the sale of the tabs will be used to purchase items such as food, toiletries, books, and other supplies needed at the Ronald McDonald Houses.

This is one of the easiest ways one can give a little that will help a lot to someone in need. If you have any questions about the Day at the Legislature or helping with the Ronald McDonald House, contact Dean Miller at 304-354-6642 or email at millerfarms@hughes.net
