GILMER PARAMEDIC ARRESTED ON REMOVING DRUGS FROM AMBULANCES

(01/14/2012)
Following the arrest of a Roane County man for stealing drugs from ambulances in Roane and Calhoun County, a Lewis County man working as a paramedic in Gilmer County has been arrested on similar drug charges.

Jeffrey L. Chapman, 47, of Weston, a paramedic for the Gilmer County Emergency Squad, has been arrested and charged with obtaining a controlled substance, morphine, by deception or subterfuge.

He has been released on $25,000 bond.

State Police in Glenville say two pre-filled syringes filled with two milligrams of morphine were missing from a Gilmer EMS drug locker in December.

A criminal complaint says Chapman tested positive for opiates.

Officials said Chapman had been accused of a similar offense in Lewis County, but he wasn't charged because he attended a rehabilitation program.
