Freddie D. Helmick, 62 - Cedar Creek

Freddie D. Helmick age 62 of Cedar Creek Rd., Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life at 1:05 p.m. Saturday January 7, 2012 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown WV following a one week illness.

Born October 16, 1949 in Gilmer County, a son of the late Irene Helmick.

Freddie was a graduate of Burnsville High School and was a heavy equipment operator, he worked in the oil fields and just recently retired from the Gilmer County Board of Education as a school bus driver. He was a Marine Veteran during the Vietnam War, and then joined the National Guard Military Police Branch.

Fred was a member of the Gilmer County Fire Department and E.M.S. for 30 years. One of his favorite pass times was running sideline chains for Gilmer County High School and Glenville State College football. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but Freddie's purpose was helping others and anyone who knew him, knows that. He also faithfully attended the Church of God of Prophecy at Sand Fork.

On July 21, 2009 he was united in marriage to Helen Williams Helmick, who survives at their Cedar Creek Home. also surviving are 2 daughters, Michelle R. Gum and husband Jim and Jennifer D. Fallo and husband Chuck both of Weston WV; 1 stepdaughter, April Fridley and fiancé Kieth Tibado of Frostproof FL; 6 grandchildren, Maddysen Parsons, Leah Fallo, Brayden Fallo, Erin Jenkins, Toby Fridley, and Kameron Tibado; 1 brother, Larry Joe Helmick of Cleveland OH; 1 sister, Doris Jean King of Glenville; 2 half brothers, Kenny Conrad of High Point NC and Ronnie Conrad of Glenville, 2 half sisters, Linda Rowh of Parkersburg WV and Kathy McCune of Glenville.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Church of God of Prophecy, Sand Fork West Virginia at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiney Cemetery, Linn WV.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
