CALHOUN DEMOCRAT CHAIRPERSON ARRESTED BY GRANTSVILLE POLICE

(01/10/2012)
Calhoun Democrat Party chairperson Shirley Ann Ball of Bull River Road was arrested by the Grantsville Police Department about 1 a.m. Sunday in Grantsville and charged with battery on an officer and obstructing an officer.

Ball, who is an active civic volunteer, was taken to Central Regional Jail, after which she was released on bond.

Patrolman J. R. Garrett, in a criminal complaint, said he heard two subjects just outside his office in a "yelling manner," and when investigating "observed a female subject to be impaired."

The complaint says that when officer Garrett approached Ball he observed "the smell of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath."

"When I attempted to give her a citation for public intoxication, she began to walk away...when stopped she pointed a finger in my face," Garrett said.

"I then told her not to put a finger in my face, she slapped my arm in a hitting manner. When the hand restraints were applied, she began to turn away in a running manner," according to the complaint.

Ball was earlier involved with her son and another family member in a fight at the Millstone Inn, where her son was severely beaten.

State Police investigated the incident and are yet to charge anyone related to the incident.
