Area residents have been among those putting up first cutting hay. A break in the weather allowed a substantial amount of fine hay to be put up without getting wet.

The local area now has several new fawns as the DNR's deer herd continues to grow.

The Creston Heights bear made another appearance. It would seem that, where it lived before the DNR moved it here, it was hand fed.

The Town of Elizabeth announced (on the front page of last week's Wirt County Journal) that a public meeting would be held at the Burning Springs Community Building on June 18 at 7 P. M. to assess the level of interest in running a water line up W. Va. 5 to the area. Some Crestonites have expressed interest in attending the meeting too. If public water is available coal and oil companies that destroy fresh water sources do not have to provide alternative supplies when the contaminate or destroy wells and springs.

Leslie Lynch and friend Stephanie from college were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fluharty as was Brittany Heiney of Elizabeth.

SFC Thomas Fluharty, USA along with some of his golfing friends went to a big doings over near Clarksburg and got to meet with golfing great, Arnold Palmer.

A number of local residents took in the Wood Festival at Grantsville.

Angie Nida and Jackie Boggs were among those graduating from Wirt County High School.

Connie Boggs has been having leg troubles.

Rev. Robert Stanley filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church. This was his last time there for after annual conference he will be full time at Pisgah. Juanita Lockhart will now be the Burning Springs minister.

Rev. Rick Swearingen, Ding Altizer, Junior Offutt, Cap'n & Mrs. Spock were among those calling on Aunt Verda at Millstone.

C. Romeo Griffin, Sr. was dining at a famous restaurant in Elizabeth, Friday evening.

Cap'n & Mrs. Drippy & crew have been out and about in their new starship, recently visiting the Burning Springs Space Dock. Their first officer is said to have a real good grasp of his duties at the science station.

David O'Dell, Bobby Taylor and the gang provided fine live music for the chief social event of the season over in Roane County on the occasion of the Purveyor of Pipe's taking a wife.

It was learned that the Canada Fisherman went up to check out the good spots so that when the Great Pifu went up with him someone would do well in the catching contest. Also the fisherman purchased a motor home over near Clarksburg but encountered technical difficulties somewhere over in Chuckie Poo's territory.

Mr. and Mrs. C. Romeo Griffin, Jr., Kayla & Dalton wee among those calling on Mr. and Mrs. Cooter Marks & son.

Delma Madge Pepper Grim passed away in Parkersburg. She always maintained a keen interest in Creston and those who lived there.

The annual Shimer reunion was held recently at the Creston Community Building. About 25 families were represented with more than 50 people present. A prize was given to Ethel Shimer Boltz as the oldest person present. She will be 99 on December 2. She, her son and daughter-in-law, Donald & Polly Boltz came with her. Faye & Neil Kramer came the farthest from Ottawa, Illinois. Faye is Ernest & Annie Shimer's daughter and never misses a reunion. Darrell Villers, a grandson had the most family present. Juanita Stalnaker's grandson was the youngest. There was good food & fellowship. Tressie Stutler, her daughter Phyllis and husband, Alvie. Tressie's sister Jean Woody & husband usually attend & we really appreciate them coming. We really appreciate the kind folks in Creston who let us use their community building each 30th of May for our Shimer reunion. With rain we usually have this time of the year we would have trouble having a picnic outside. Submitted by Evelyn Shimer Bowman.

Pine Grove Mayor Johnny Bell was attending to business in Creston and Elizabeth.

Juanita Bell was a patient in the hospital suffering from double pneumonia. " Beanie" Veon was among those calling on her.

The local cherry crop got ripe but the varmints harvested them all before anyone could pick them and make pies.

The Wirt County Farm Bureau will meet June 18 at 8 P. M. at the road garage in Elizabeth. Everyone is welcome.
