Lee Roy Jones, 95 - Big Bend

Lee Roy Jones, 95, of Big Bend, West Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Minnie Hamilton Health System in Grantsville following an extended illness.

He was born February 18, 1916 a son of the late John and Samantha Mae Kerby Jones Eagle.

He was retired form the Oakmar Oil Company of Ohio. He proudly served his country in WWII as PFC in Company E. 242nd Infantry, 42 Rainbow Division from 1941 to 1945 and was a Prisoner of War. He received a Bronze Star, a Prisoner of War Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, the Army Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal with German Clasp, Combat Infantry Badge and Honorable Service Lapel Button. He attended the Rock Full Gospel Church at Big Springs.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years Edith Eagle Jones and his children, Sharon (Donald) Miller and Laura (Jeffro) Marks of Big Bend, a son, Michael Myers of Spencer; a son-in-law, Harold (Bud) Kellar; grandchildren, Karen Checkan of Big Bend, Kari Braden of Elizabeth, Jenny Myers of Mt. Zion, Jeremiah and Jaden Marks of Big Bend; great grandchildren, Jesse Richards, Brandon Checkan, Kristina and Amy Braden, Austin Myers; sisters, Alice Richards and Alma Lanham; and a brother, Willard Jones.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lendia Kellar; a sister, Mary Jones; a brother, Harley Jones; and a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Myers.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. Rev. Carroll McCauley will officiate. Interment will be in the Goodnight Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
