POLICE MAKE MORE ARRESTS FOLLOWING CALHOUN METH DISCOVERY - Three Children Removed From House

(12/06/2011)
State Police have made more arrests after discovering up to "ten shake-and-bake meth labs" inside a house near Minnora, Calhoun County.

Last week police arrested Jerry Glenn McKown, Jr., 24, after officers obtained a search warrant for a house after a Child Protective Services worker noticed the so-called labs while checking on the welfare of children in the household.

McKown is in Central Regional Jail with $45,000 bond set, following his arrest by TFC J. E. Kincaid.

Jerry Glenn McKown, 51, and his wife Barbara McKown, 49, of Orma, parents of Jerry Glenn McKown, Jr., are now facing charges related to the obtaining of meth ingredients and conspiracy to operate a clandestine meth lab.

State Police, according to the criminal complaint, says Barbara McKown purchased multiple boxes of pseudo-ephedrine from Rite Aid in Grantsville. The drug is used in the production of meth.

The elder McKowns have been released on bond, with police indicating further arrests are pending related to the case.

Police issued four charges against Glenn McKown Jr., including attempting to operate a clandestine meth lab, possession of precursors to manufacture meth, and exposing children to meth manufacturing.

The criminal complaint says police obtained a search warrant for the residence of Jerry McKown Sr. a short distance from State Rt. 16 at Minnora after a CPS worker reported she noticed "shake-and-bake" bottles of meth while conducting a wellness check on the children of Jerry McKown, Jr.

The complaint says the children were ages four, two and one. CPS has removed the children from the household.

The criminal complaint says officers observed "shake and bake" meth labs in a bedroom "that appeared to be where the children were staying," or in an area "where said children would have to pass said meth labs in order to get to said room."
