| The Annual Hometown Christmas Parade and festivities sponsored by the Roane County Chamber of Commerce, City of Spencer and Wal-Mart will be held on Friday, December 2nd beginning at 6:00 p.m. The parade route will begin at the Spencer Wal-Mart parking plaza and continue through downtown Main Street, ending on Court Street behind the Courthouse.
Cash prizes will be given for the following entries:
Floats (including cars and trucks) 1st place
$75.00 2nd place $50.00
Walking Groups 1st place, $25.00, 2nd place $15.00
Individuals 1st place $25.00, 2nd place $15.00
Motorized 1st place $25.00, 2nd place $15.00
The Spencer Middle School Choir will perform in front of the Roane County Courthouse from 5:30-6:00 p.m. Following the Christmas Parade at the Courthouse, come visit with Santa Claus and have free hot chocolate and cookies and enjoy a live performance by the Speed United Methodist Church Youth Hand Bell Choir. A drawing for two 4' Christmas Stockings filled with $100 of toys each, and the parade winners will be announced. Photos with Santa will be available for purchase.
Watch for the participating business that will be having special sales or staying open late during the "12 Days of Christmas In Spencer."
Other events kicking off the holiday season include
Spencer Lion's Club will sponsor a Christmas Craft Sale and concessions on Friday, December 2nd and Saturday, December 3rd at the Heritage Park Community Building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following the Christmas Parade the Lion's Club will offer free hot chocolate at the Community Building as well.
For individuals wishing to enter in the stocking drawing, entry boxes will be available in participating local Chamber Businesses beginning Monday, November 28th. The drawing is for children 12 and under.
