Over a thousand rounds of ammo exploded in a mobile home fire off Sinking Springs Road Sunday morning. "I had thirteen guns burn up with the shells," said owner Don Simmons. The trailer was fully engulfed when discovered by family members in Simmons Hollow (Hughes Run).

Rounds of shotgun and rifle shells continued to explode around the home for nearly 45 minutes. Arnoldsburg Fire Chief Bill Jones said several small canisters of propane gas also exploded. The home was a total loss before the AVFD arrived, although a pumper was sent into the narrow hollow.

Don Simmons said he was in the process of moving into the mobile home. He told Chief Jones the fire seemed to have started near a furnace. There was no insurance.

Arnoldsburg VFD sent three trucks and eight men to the fire. Calhoun EMS also responded.
