FESTIVAL WEATHER WILL BECOME KINDER - 40th Event Starts Tonight

The weather will improve, according to the National Weather Service, for Calhoun's 40th Wood Festival. Thunderstorms and some heavy rain will continue through Thursday, but skies rain will cease Thursday night with a sunny day predicted for Friday and Saturday's events - including the grand parade.

The young and the old are expected to turn out starting today. The Lion's carnival will be a big attraction, and dozens of food and craft booths will be open.

Old Wood festival friends gather

Tonight is gospel music night on the Main Street Stage with lots of musical talent including Redeemed and Forgiven.

Tomorrow evenings entertainment will include regional music groups, concluding with karaoke by Toby Wagoner.

Nettles and McCormick work the Lion's Club Bingo

The big festival day is Saturday with an archery shoot, quilt show, car show, volleyball tournament, paintball tournament, Arden Cogar's wood chopping exhibition, and the Grand Parade starting at 1 p.m.

There is an entertainment bonanza Saturday evening, from country to rock, starting at 3 p.m. and lasting until 11 p.m.

It is the kids who look forward to the event...
