FEDERAL INMATE ASSAULTED GUARD AT GILMER PRISON

A federal inmate at the federal prison in Gilmer County has pleaded guilty to assaulting a correctional officer. U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II says 25-year-old David Williams admitted assaulting the officer while trying to dispose of contraband last January. Williams entered his plea and U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley sentenced Williams to a year in prison. The sentence will be served consecutively with Williams' existing 130-month sentence.
