WIRT COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES UPGRADE COMMUNICATIONS

(10/31/2011)
Elizabeth, W.Va. - Wirt County Sheriff D. Keith Wilson, Jr. and Wirt County Office of Emergency Services (OES) Director Edwin L. "Bo" Wriston are pleased to announce the addition of Nixle® to the Wirt County Public Safety Notification System.

Nixle is a nationwide community information service dedicated to helping citizens stay connected via text and email notifications from local emergency agencies. In the instance of a significant weather or emergency event, the Wirt County Sheriff's Office and/or the Wirt County OES will issue an advisory message or alert via Nixle®.

Individuals who sign up for the free Nixle® service will then receive notification on their cell phones and/or computers via text and/or email detailing the event.

Anyone wishing to receive Nixle® notifications can sign up for a free account at   www.nixle.com

In addition to Nixle®, Wirt County OES issues weather and emergency notices to the public via Twitter (@WirtCountyOES) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wirt-County-Office-of-Emergency-Services/242976952380906)

According to Wirt County OES Director Bo Wriston, "We have now integrated our Twitter and Facebook accounts with Nixle, so we can initiate one notice, and that notice will populate across all three platforms. This provides us an incredible tool to immediately notify citizens of events that may impact their safety such as flash flooding, tornadoes, major fires, etc. or even road closures."
