WOOD DEPUTY ARRESTED FOLLOWING GUN INCIDENT IN WIRT COUNTY

A Wood County deputy sheriff has been arrested following an incident in Wirt County and has been placed on leave, according to Sheriff Jeff Sandy.

Deputy Brian Swiger has been charged with one count of misdemeanor brandishing of a firearm, with the charges stemming from statements taken from about a half-dozen witnesses.

According to the criminal complaint, Swiger got into an altercation with Herbert Toney on Oct. 7.

The complaint says Swiger pulled a firearm and waved it at Toney and in the direction of four other witnesses.

Swiger was reportedly off-duty when the incident happened.

An internal investigation is being conducted by the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

Swiger appeared before Wirt County Magistrate David Roberts and posted $1,000 bond.
