Ethel Leoda Simmons, 87 - Glenville

Ethel Leoda Simmons age 87 of Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life at 1:26 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011 in Minnie Hamilton Long Term Care Center, Grantsville, following an extended illness.

She was born December 8, 1923, in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Fred and Stella Pritt Sims.

Ethel was a homemaker and a mother. She was a member of the Tanner United Methodist Church. She loved to read, bake and cook but her life was devoted to her children and families.

On April 5, 1939 she was married to Levi Clark Simmons who preceded her in death November 10, 1969.

Surviving is one son, Nelson Simmons of Glenville; three daughters, Charlotte Wilson of Clarksburg WV, Patty Shoemaker and husband Neal of Vincent OH and Anita Hartshorn and husband Bobby of Glenville.

There are 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren surviving.

Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by one infant son, Edward Charles Simmons; one daughter, Edith Carol Simmons; two sons, Raymond and Gary Simmons; one brother, Leroy Sims and one sister, Rhoda Mae Sims Baughman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26 at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Mortuary.
