GRANTSVILLE POLICE CHIEF STARCHER RESIGNING

(10/15/2011)

Grantsville Police Chief Jeff Starcher is resigning.

Starcher says he will be leaving the position on October 28.

"I have decided to resign...having intentions of furthering my law enforcement career with another law enforcement agency," he said.

Starcher said his new job will have better benefits, and "presents a tremendous opportunity for me and my family."

He did not indicate his new employer.

Starcher was appointed chief in April, 2010 by former Mayor Gary Knight.

He graduated from the WV State Police Academy in 2009, having previously served as an officer with the Grantsville department.

Starcher has also been a part-time Calhoun deputy sheriff.

A 2006 Calhoun High School graduate, he studied criminal justice, and was a former news director for WVRC Radio in Spencer.

Starcher's long-time ambition has been to become a police officer.

Grantsville Mayor Curtis Garretson will be naming a new chief.
