4-H & FFA YOUTH LIVESTOCK SALE HAD COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Saturday night paid off for the youth involved in the second annual Calhoun County 4-H & FFA Youth Livestock Show and Sale held on the Stump Funeral Home Lot in Arnoldsburg, WV.

The entire sale raised $29,357.72. Most of those funds will be paid out to the seventeen of the eighteen exhibitors who decided to sell their animals after the animal placement and showmanship shows held Saturday, September 24, 2011 during the WV Molasses Festival. The entire community was very generous at the seond youth livestock show and sale in Calhoun County. The livestock program received $4,269.80 from community donations and a four percent sales commission to ensure the continuation of the program for future years.

The sale results are as follows:

Angel Samples, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold the grand champion market hog for $5.50/lb; $1,331.00 to Roane General Hospital, who donated the animal back to the exhibitor. Jessica Summers, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold the reserve champion market hog for $4.86/ lb; $1,081.55 to Vineyard Farms. Cole Vineyard sold the grand champion heifer for 6.50/lb; $4,556.50 to ADCO Well Service. Trent Cottrill sold the grand champion steer for $3.20/lb; $2,313.30 to Cain Veterinary Clinics, who donated the animal to the livestock program. Brooklynn Nicholson, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold the reserve champion steer to Southern States of Spencer for 3.70/lb; $1,935.10.

Kelsey Jett, Arnoldsburg Eagles 4-H, sold the reserve champion heifer to Calhoun Banks for 3.60/lb; $1,519.20, who donated the animal back to the exhibitor. Kate Page, FFA member, sold a feeder calf heifer for $3.00/ lb; $1,404.00 to JSC Enterprises, Inc. Candice Conrad, Arnoldsburg Eagles 4-H, sold a feed calf steer to ADCO Well Service for $2.75/lb; $1,628.00. Angel Bee, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold a feeder calf heifer for $3.25/lb; $1,335.75 to JSC Enterprises, Inc.

Ethan Krugman, Pleasant Hill Cornpoppers 4-H, sold a feeder calf steer to Francis Cain of Cain Farms for $2.35/lb; $1,367.70 , who donated the resale of the animal back to the exhibitor. Eli Stump, Pleasant Hill Cornpoppers 4-H , sold a feeder calf steer to Houchin Construction for $3.00/lb; $1,671.00. Emmalee Knotts, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold a feeder calf steer for $2.70/lb; $1,474.20 to Francis Cain of Cain Farms, who donated the resale of the animal back to the exhibitor. Josh Summers, FFA, sold a feeder calf steer to Jackson County Regional Livestock Market for $3.20/ lb; $1,593.60.

Anna Knotts, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold a feeder calf steer for $2.30/lb; $963.70 to Shamblin Brothers Farm Supply, who donated the resale of the animal to the livestock program. Alex Cunningham, FFA, sold the grand champion market goat for $9.60/lb; $963.70 to Shamblin Brothers Farm Supply, who donated the resale of the goat back to the livestock program.

Kody Shultz, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold the grand champion market lamb for $8.00 lb/ $952.00 to Southern States of Spencer. Christopher Shultz, Silver Spurs 4-H, sold the grand champion market rabbit for $205.00 to Kenneth Arnold, who donated the resale of the animal back to the exhibitor. The following individuals and businesses supported the sale by purchasing animal on resale: Randall Arnold, Jason Nettles, Stricklen Dozer Service, Vineyard Farms, and the Bolte Farm. Brad and Janet Summers donated a 144 lb market hog to auction to benefit the livestock program. The donated hog was purchased by Dale Cunningham for $1.00 lb/ $144. Christopher Shultz, an exhibitor at the show and member of the Silver Spurs 4-H, donated a market rabbit to auction to benefit the livestock program as well. Roane General Hospital and My Three Sons Farm together purchased the donated rabbit for $200.

Emily Krugman, Pleasant Hill Cornpoppers 4-H, showed the grand champion dairy goat and opted not to sell the animal in the sale. Several donations were provided to the livestock program by community members and groups. Dick Morris donated $900. The Calhoun County Farm Bureau provided a $400 donation. Minnie Hamilton Health System. Basil and Janet Butler donated many concession items and the saw dust for the animal stalls. Neil and Gina Stump donated the use of their livestock pens, grooming chutes, land, water and electricity to the livestock program to make the show and sale possible.

Brad and Janet Summers donated the use of two livestock pens. Randall Arnold donated the use of corral panels to make a show ring. Monte Arnold donated the use of two livestock pens. Jenna Jett and Janet Butler donated their time to run the concession stand, which made over $400.00. The West Virginia Department of Agriculture provided a hand washing station for the livestock area. Many more individuals volunteered their time and efforts to help set up and tear down the show and sale area.
