CHS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL RESULTS

The Calhoun High School Varsity Volleyball team hosted Braxton County last Thursday and defeated them in straight sets 25-18, 25-21, 25-17.

Chelsea Hicks lead the team in service points with 13 points, 3 aces; she was followed by Jordan Mace, 9 points, 1 ace; Amber Wilford 7 points, Megan Barton 6 points, Rochelle Gerwig 5 points, Kenzie Laughlin 2 points, Shayla Arnold 1 point. Setting: Hicks 51/57, 20 assists; Stephanie Hall 45/49, 15 assists. Hitting: Wilford 42/43, 18 kills; Gerwig 21/23, 6 kills; Mace 20/21, 8 kills; Sam Church 6/6, 1 kill; Laughlin 4/4, Arnold 3/4, 2 kills; Barton 1/2. Blocks: Wilford 2, Hall 2, Gerwig 1. Digs: Brook Manns 5, Church 4, Gerwig 3, Laughlin 2.

The JV was defeated 25-15, 25-15. Leading with service points was Shayla Arnold 6 points, 3 aces; Kayla Church 3 points, 2 aces; Katie Rogers 2 points, J'Nae Carter 3 points.

The CHS Varsity team participated in the ten team St. Albans Invitational on Saturday, Sept 17. Calhoun was seeded seventh coming out of pool play and and won the Silver Bracket which contained the 7th thru 10th seeded teams.

In pool play Calhoun lost to Ritchie 18-25, 16-25. Jordan Mace led the team in service points with 7; she was followed by Chelsea Hicks 3, Megan Barton 3, Shayla Arnold 2, and Amber Wilford 1. Setting: Hicks 26/27, 7 assists; Stephanie Hall 27/28, 1 assist. Hitting: Wilford 22/25, 7 kills; Mace 8/11, 1 kill; Gerwig 9/9, Kenzie Laughlin 5/6, Arnold 0/2. Blocks: Wilford 3, Hall 3, Gerwig 1. Digs: Brooke Manns 2.

In pool play Calhoun split with Greater Beckley 20-25 and 25-23. Leading the team in service points was Shayla Arnold with 8 points, 3 aces; followed by Jordan Mace 6 points, 2 aces; Rochelle Gerwig 5 points, 1 ace; Kenzie Hicks 4 points, 1ace; Amber Wilford 2 points, Chelsea Hicks 1 point. Setting: Hicks 21/23, 7 assists; Stephanie Hall 30/32, 5 assists, 2kills; Hitting: Wilford 23/26, 7 kills; Mace 9/13, 2 kills; Gerwig 9/11, 1 kills; Kenzie Laughlin 10/11, 2 kills. Blocks: Wilford 4. Digs: Brooke Manns 2, Sam Church 3, Laughlin 2.

Also in pool play, split with St. Albans 25-22 and 15-25. Leading the team in service points with 4 each were Wilford, K. Hicks, and Gerwig; followed by C. Hicks and Mace 2 each and Arnold 1. Setting: C. Hicks 19/23, 5 assists; Hall 19/20, 1 assist. Hitting: Wilford 15/16, 4 kills; Mace 11/12, 1 kill; Gerwig 6/7, Laughlin 5/6, 1 kill; Church 2/2. In match play, Calhoun defeated Doddridge 25-22, 19-25, and 15-6. Leading the team in service points was Wilford 13 points, 1 ace; Arnold 6, 1; C. Hicks 4, 1; Mace 4, 1; K. Hicks 2,2. Setting: C. Hicks 50/54 6 assists; Hall 46/48, 10 assist. Hitting: Wilford 43/47 5 kills; Church 15/17, 4 kills; Mace 9/11, 5 kills; Gerwig 13/17, 1 kill; Laughlin 9/10, 2 kills. In match play, Calhoun defeated Ripley 25-18, 20-25, 15-7. Leading in service points was C. Hicks with 9, followed by Arnold 7, 3; Wilford 8, 1; and K. Hicks 5, 1. Setting: C. Hicks 30/34, 8 assists; Hall 43/47, 9 assists. Hitting: Wilford 29/32, 10 kills; Gerwig 20/21, 5 kills; Mace 8/10 , 2 kills; Church 8/9, 1 kill; Laughlin 5/6, Arnold 1/2. Blocks: Wilford 3, Hall 1. Amber Wilford was named to the All Tournament Team.

The Varsity plays in a quad at Roane on Tuesday, 9/20, and both Varsity and JV are in action on Thursday at Gilmer. JV play begins at 6 p.m.
