Rev. Charles L. Davis, 70 - Spencer

Rev. Charles L. Davis, 70, of Spencer, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 8, 2011. He passed away at his home, with family by his side, as a result of leukemia.

Charles was born November 30, 1940, in Spencer, the son of the late Clifford L. and Emoneal Cottrell Davis.

He worked for the sweater factory for many years, was a heavy equipment operator, was a bus driver for the Roane County Schools, was a member of the American Baptist Association and pastored several area churches over the years. He was the current pastor of Alexander Baptist Church, Spencer.

He enjoyed many things including hunting, fishing, archery, woodworking, gardening, raising bantam chickens and sharing his faith.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janet S. Harper Davis; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bill and Debbie Davis Greathouse of Walton, Mike and Charla Davis Roberts of Spencer, and Darrin and Christa Davis Epling of Ripley; brother, Larry D. Davis of Spencer; two sisters, Glenna J. Jarvis of Waskom, TX and Linda G. Blosser of Long Bottom, OH; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Danny Whited and the Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Hebron Memorial Cemetery, Spencer. Friends may call Saturday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been set up. Donations will be used to defray medical and funeral expenses. Donations may be mailed to Janet S. Davis, P.O. Box 527, Spencer, WV 25276.
