Stephanie Jarrell-Sumner has been recently hired as the new Calhoun County Middle/High School Band Director, according to the Braxton Citizen News.

Stephanie is a 2006 graduate of Braxton County High School and a 2011 Magna cum laude graduate of Glenville State College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education K-12. She was also the recipient of the 2009 Excellence in Music Award at GSC, and was selected as the Fall 2010 Outstanding Intern.

While attending Glenville State College, Stephanie participated in Marching Band where she was the 2009-2010 Field Commander, Brass Ensemble, Brass Quintet, Jazz Band, Choir, Chamber Singers, Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble.

She has also traveled to Chicago, Illinois for the Midwest Clinic; Indianapolis, Indiana for the Percussive Arts Society International Conference; Tucson, Arizona for the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference; and has also participated in various local and state music conferences.

"I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to work in Calhoun," said Stephanie. "I worked with the elementary program in Calhoun during my student internship and I worked as a substitute in the county from February until June this past school year."

The Calhoun County Marching Band participates in all home and away football games, with extended trips to Buffalo and Moorefield High Schools. They will also be participating in the 2011 Black Walnut Festival in Spencer, WV and the Tri-State Marching Festival at the Marshall University Football Stadium in Huntington. Both festivals are in mid-October.

Along to support and assist Stephanie are fellow teachers Eileen Marsh and Gina Cano-Stump. Miss Marsh is the choir and theatre director at Calhoun Middle High School and successfully re-introduced the former Calhoun County Follies as the Red Devil Revues. Mrs. Cano-Stump is a 5th grade teacher and the former director of the CMHS Marching Band. She has now taken the position of Assistant Band Director.

"Without the help of these two ladies, I would have had a bumpy start. I appreciate all the help they have given me and the support system we provide for each other."
