WALMART STILL BIGGEST EMPLOYER - Top Ten Employers Have 158 Fewer Workers

(09/03/2011)
Retail giant WalMart remains the largest private employer in the Mountain State, according to WorkForce West Virginia.

The retailer employs 12,333 in West Virginia.

WalMart is the largest employer in Ohio, once known for its thousands of industrial jobs, although a recent study said the largest employer in Ohio is the fast-food industry.

Walmart has been the largest employer in WV since 1998. Four of the top five private employers in the state have remained the same since last year.

The top five employers are WalMart, West Virginia United Health System, Charleston Area Medical Center, Kroger, and Consolidation Coal Co.

The top ten employers of March 2011 had 158 fewer workers than the top 10 employers of 2010.

However, total employment among all 100 companies is up by 621 workers from March 2009.
