WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - MU Football Player charged In Armed Robberies

(08/31/2011)
MU PLAYER ARRESTED - A Marshall University football player has been arrested in Huntington and charged with a string of armed robberies over the weekend, says a news release from the Huntington Police Department. Troy Evans, 21, of Oakland, Calif., was arrested on Marshall's campus and charged with four counts of armed robbery and wanton endangerment.

The robberies happened early Sunday morning.

Marshall's Athletic Department issued the following statement, "Marshall wide receiver Troy Evans has been suspended indefinitely due to a violation of team rules. There will be no further comment at this time."

Evans is among several football players at MU and WVU who have been arrested and suspended during the past several months.

DEPUTIES SHOT IN ACCIDENT - The Marshall County Sheriff's Department says two deputies were injured when a gun they were working on accidentally discharged at a residence.

Sheriff John Gruzinkas says both deputies were shot in the hands. One was shot in the hip, requiring surgery.

Chief Deputy Kevin Cecil says a department-owned gun malfunctioned and discharged while they were working on it.
