Rodger J. Young, 78 - Walton

Rodger J. Young, 78, of Walton, West Virginia, died Monday, August 29, 2011, in the CAMC - Memorial Hospital, Charleston, after an extended illness.

He was born July 7, 1933, at Falling Rock, a son of the late Curtis and Ida Carr Young.

Rodger was a retired bridge painter and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a former employee of W.Q. Waters, Charleston and Bethlehem Mines, Kayford. As a boy, he enjoyed working horses and in later life, he enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetable crops with friends.

Survivors include his children, Kathy Schwabauer of Pittsboro NC, Beverly Alvis of Spencer, Linda Young, Jimmy Young, Michael Young and Terry Young all of Walton.

A funeral service will be held Friday, September 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Justin S. Simmons officiating. Burial will be on the Rodger J. Young Farm, Walton.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service.
