WIRT TEACHER WILL STAND TRIAL FOR EMBEZZLEMENT

(08/20/2011)
A Wirt County teacher and coach has decided to forgo a plea agreement from the state and her case has been set to go to trial in December.

Christine Wilson of Washington WV is charged with embezzlement of funds from the Wirt County Band Boosters.

Attorney William Summers told the court that Wilson will not seek a plea agreement.

The teacher-coach had served as treasurer of a band boosters club, allegedly taking about $9,000 from the group.

Wilson, a teacher at the Wirt County Primary Center who had served as the high school softball coach, was suspended by Wirt County school officials without pay pending the outcome of the case.

Wirt County Prosecutor Leslie Maze indicated she was upset with this development, saying there would have been time and opportunity to try the case earlier this week.

The trial is scheduled for Dec. 5, postponed because of medical problems Wilson is experiencing.
