W. "Joyce" Twyman Monroe Slater 69

W. "Joyce" Twyman Monroe Slater 69, of Orlando, Florida, passed away at Vita Hospice Hospital on July 31 with her daughter, Sonya at her side.

She was born February 5, 1942 in Cabell County, WV. She graduated from Wirt County High School in 1960 and furthered her education at Wayne State University in Computer Science.

She worked several years at Hartford's Insurance and Wilson Dairy in Michigan in DATA entering before being appointed Ombudsman for the U.S. Navy. Her greatest joy was traveling the world over and visiting and learning other cultures in other countries. In this she was able to travel around the US and 10 other countries, some in which she lived. Her hobby was bowling with many trophies and awards of achievements and she was a licensed cosmetologist with Fashion 220.

She was the daughter of the late Woodrow J. Twyman and I. Ethel Honaker Twyman.

Surviving are her daughters, Charolette Monroe Young, (Roger) of Palestine WV and Sonya Monroe Lass (Rick) of Westland MI; and grandson, Matthew Roos also of Westland; sister, Pat Bluew of Elizabeth WV; brothers, Sonny Twyman (Patty) of Mineral Wells WV, Jerry Twyman (Pam) of Elizabeth and sisters-in-law, Sue Whited, Rose (Jerry) Greenburg, Patty (Gene) Merrill and Mary Ann (Ivan) Nicholas; several adoring nieces and nephews; and very special friends from Florida, John Barbulescu and John and Peggy Winkleblack.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Harold Monroe and brother-in-law, Ken Bluew and sister in law, Dora Jean Gick.

She was baptized into the Hill Grove Baptist Church in 2001 by the Rev. Charles Leisure.

Services will be Friday, August 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Hill Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Leisure officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Grove Cemetery #2, Sanoma Road. Visitation will be Thursday, August 4 from 4-8 p.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth and 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
