David Lee Sharps Sr., 77 - Glenville

David Lee Sharps Sr., age 77 of Pine St. Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life at 3:56 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born June 18, 1934 in Gilmer County a son of the late Clarence D. and Ava Burroughs Sharps.

David was retired from Columbia Gas Transmissions Corp. with 40 years of service. A graduate of Sand Fork High School Class of 1953 he loved hunting, fishing, basketball and was a die-hard WVU fan. These were only surpassed by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Sand Fork Baptist Church and an Army Vet during the Korean Conflict.

On January 5, 1957 he was married to Lyla Stump Sharps who survives at their Pine St. home in Glenville.

Three children survive, David L. Sharps Jr. and wife Marcia of Spencer WV; Diana L. Sharps of Glenville and Anna I. Dahmer and husband Jerry of Sutton WV; grandchildren, Marina Graber (Alan) of Ripley WV; Kasandra R. Sharps, Parkersburg WV; and Robbie A. Graber of Columbus OH; great grandchildren, Sebastian, Kiresten and Zachary Graber of Ripley; one sister, JoAnn Hyre (Donell) of Buckhannon WV; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Mr. Sharps in death were one son, Stephen Wayne Sharps and stepfather, Holly C. Westfall.

Funeral services will be held at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. Glenville at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Fork Cemetery, Sand Fork.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Mortuary.
