Charles Russell was among those who attended the Methodist parish picnic at the park in Elizabeth.

The big Creston ATV Poker Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Creston Community Building. Signup is from 9 to 12 at the building. There will also be food, 50/50, door prizes and a special item. It should be a very fun run.

The Wirt County Fair will start August 3 with items of interest for all members of the family and for all ages.

Jesse Carpenter's chariot was on Stutler Road which goes from Little Creek to Annamoriah but for some reason it went down over the hill and landed in the Little Creek Road causing him to be sent to the Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg.

In the bummers & busts department, there was a big raid on a large operation based at the head of Little Creek on and near the Asa Haney hill where the late Asa and his family formerly lived. While two have already been arrested and a lot of the crop was hauled away the saga is far from over. One of the principals is said to be active in the organization that a recently departed and much lauded U. S. Senator formerly was a recruiter. Those familiar with the area indicate that there are many sheds and buildings, etc. Thereafter other local residents were treated to flyovers and picture taking. One couple waved to the helicopter people and one woman noted that the row of okra in her garden seemed to be of great interest. [Okra is good when sliced, rolled in cornmeal and fried.]

A prominent farmer in a mountain county recalled that last year a friend planted a garden, complete with tomatoes on an island in a stream between his two cornfields. The choppers blew down quite a bit of corn trying to get good pictures of the garden which was not a dope patch. It was reported that 13 vehicles full of law enforcement personnel were involved in the initial raid on Little Creek and that some came back later to gather more crop. Some folks are afraid to walk on their own land that is located in that general area for fear of setting off booby traps. Then it was reported that there were drug arrests in Wirt County.

The mayor of New York City gave $50 million to the Sierra Club to work to shut down coal fired power plants. To be fair, those in his fair city should be forced to rely on hot air, wind mills in Central Park and hand crank generators to get along. Those in that area also oppose gas drilling because the funder of their news an political pundits (George Soros) wants to sell his natural gas produced in the former USSR and New Guinea. Of course Siemens Corp. advertise that they make for nicer and healthier cities, apparently using 'clean' energy. Siemens is the company that helped the Iranian government build the nuclear facilities to make bombs, for peaceful purposes of course.

The local area has been suffering from hot humid weather and sporadic storms but, as has been noted, few new temperature records have been set although the global warming hoax crowd has been noisy.

Alvin Engelke had an interaction with one of the DNR's fine critters down on the Clark Straight.

Some local seniors wonder if the Big Eared One will send out the social security checks if the House of Representatives "does not compromise". So far only the house has taken any action and it did not include any more tax increases. While the fearless leader calls for "shared sacrifice" it seems that no government salaries are to be cut (they are way higher than in the private sector) and there are to be no shut down of non-functional beaurocratic departments or layoffs of 'hardly working' "public servants" who, apparently, feel entitled to being kept in luxurious digs by those who must sweat and toil and do without.

Not so long back there was a meeting down at the Mouth of the Elk with a number of inside the beltway folks who were having "cultural shock" out in the 'boondocks'. One said, "All monies should be kept and spent in the metropolitan areas so we can have the best infrastructure". but another said, "We have to allow some to be spent out in the rural areas so that energy, raw materials and food can be brought to us". One 'fancy female" said, to the effect, there is nothing here worthwhile in W. Va. and after the tour of the Toyota plant she was thoroughy grossed out when the tour bus went by a Dairy Queen.

As a point of reference on the federal debt and deficit, 42 cents of each federal dollar currently spent is borrowed from China and other third world nations and one wonders why the credit rating might be lowered. Cutting the money for ethanol, "green jobs", agencies banning light bulbs and regular automobles, supporting illegal aliens, keeping able bodied men & women who wouldn't work in a pie factory, funding anti-American world groups, funding cowboy poetry festivals, etc. is somehow, by some said to be bad?

Rea Elizabeth Schenerlein arrived on the scene weighing 5 lb 9 oz and being 17" long. Mother and baby are doing fine and big brother W. Harrison Schenerlein IV is proud as a peacock and helping with chores, such as a four year old can.

With lots of discussion about the EMT squad in Wirt County it is of more than passing interest the financial problems presently facing the Calhoun entity.

What is said to be a Marcellus shale well is being drilled on Mellin Ridge in Ritchie County. To access the site one turns off Rt. 47 across from the end of W. Va. 53 and go toward Devil Hole but then turn right and follow the signs to Rig 65.

'Whistle' McIntyre said it was rough trying to live on only social security and that he was looking to get a job running a bulldozer.

The Creston Community business meeting will be held Tuesday, August 2 at 7 P. M. at the community building.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil rose 50 cents to $95/bbl.

Anna Yates has returned from the deserts of Kuwait and is spending some time at the Schenerlein residence in Vienna helping out with the new arrival.
