HONORING THE WAR DEAD - Harvey McFee Accepts The Duty

(05/25/2002)

"Row on row, the crosses stand..."

Wirt County resident Howard McFee was erecting crosses Thursday with the names of the war dead on the lawn of the Wirt County courthouse, getting ready to place an American flag beside each marker.

"I've been doing it for 20 years. It's just something I have accepted to do," he said.

The crosses, according to McFee, represents soldiers who have died in wars since WWI.
