CALHOUN'S RELAY FOR LIFE RAISES $16,000 FOR CANCER CURE

(07/16/2011)
The American Cancer Society's annual Relay For Life held June 25 at Wayne Underwood Field in Grantsville raised over $16,000.00 to help find a cure for the dreaded disease called cancer, according to Carlene Frederick, event sponsorship chairperson.

"There were individual teams who worked very hard to raise money by holding fund raising events. Many others bought items, contributed or donated for the cause. The people of this county give so generously and I would personally like to thank everyone who helped in any way," said Frederick.

Frederick said, "A big 'thank you' goes to our small businesses that were event sponsors. Since we only have small businesses in our county, they give to everything 'coming and going' as the saying goes. We truly appreciate them contributing to our Relay."

The following businesses were solicited and contributed as event sponsors this year. Please patronize them and if you get the chance, say "thank you", she said.

Calhoun County Banks, Calhoun Chronicle, Drilco Oil and Gas, Rogers and Son Oil and Gas, Francis and Donna Cain, Houchin's Construction, Minnie Hamilton Health System, Key Energy, Grantsville Foodland, Furr's Auto Sales, The Hur Herald, Stump Cattle Co LLC., Stump Funeral Home, and WVRC Radio Station.
