HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FILING PERIOD HAS STARTED

The filing period for the Homestead Exemption, which allows a discount on property tax for seniors and the permanently disabled, is now open.

The filing period began July 1 and seniors and those who are totally, permanently disabled who wish to sign up for the tax break have until Dec. 1 to file.

The application can be made at Calhoun Assessor Jason Nettles office.

Those already on Homestead Exemption do not have to reapply.

The discount is often about $200-$250 a year.

NOTICE TO ALL TAXPAYERS: The Calhoun County Assessors office has been getting many assessment blanks and farm reports returned from the post office for bad addresses.
