HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FILING PERIOD HAS STARTED

The filing period for the Homestead Exemption, which allows a discount on property tax for seniors and the permanently disabled, is now open.

The filing period began July 1 and seniors and those who are totally, permanently disabled who wish to sign up for the tax break have until Dec. 1 to file.

The application can be made at Calhoun Assessor Jason Nettles office.

Those already on Homestead Exemption do not have to reapply.

The discount is often about $200-$250 a year.

NOTICE TO ALL TAXPAYERS: The Calhoun County Assessors office has been getting many assessment blanks and farm reports returned from the post office for bad addresses. If you have not received your assessment blank or farm report please contact the office, open 8:30-4 Monday thru Friday (304)354-6958.
