SPECIAL PROSECUTOR INVESTIGATING STATE TROOPER - Allegations Trooper Doug Starcher Committed Perjury

(05/23/2002)
A special prosecutor is investigating perjury allegations against State Police Trooper Doug Starcher. Gilmer prosecutor, Gerry Hough said "I have begun, from various sources, investigating the matter of Trooper Starcher in Calhoun case 0-1-F10."

Allegations have been lodged against the officer that he committed perjury in a Calhoun Circuit Court.

The case involves testimony given by Starcher in a drug case, where a Calhoun woman was indicted and charged in court for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Court documents indicate no such evidence existed, although the woman was prosecuted for nearly a year before the charges were dropped.

Calhoun Prosecuting Attorney Tony Morgan recused himself from the case, and Judge Thomas Evans III requested a special prosecutor.

Trooper Starcher has been on special duty, but has currently been working in Roane County.
