RITCHIE CO. HAS WEATHER RELATED ACCIDENT SUNDAY NIGHT

(06/20/2011)
With heavy rains hitting some of the region and a flash flood watch issued for much of the area, a Sunday night accident on Rt. 47 near Cisco, Ritchie County, appears to be weather related.

An eastbound Chevy S10 pickup struck a tree as it fell across the roadway, blocking both lanes of Route 47.

Sources at the scene say the driver was able to exit with no injuries, indicating he was traveling 40 mph.

Fire, police, ambulance, and the Dept. of Highways were on the scene, and the westbound traffic began to move at 10 pm.

Heavy rain in the area has washed large amounts of gravel onto the highway and driving is hazardous in those areas at this time.

While Calhoun is part of the warning area, NWS maps currently show the heavy rain going slightly north of the county.
