WIRT STUDENT WILL ATTEND GOVERNOR'S HONOR ACADEMY

(06/14/2011)
Caroline Arthur has been accepted into the Governor's Honors Academy of West Virginia, a 3-week academic program being held at West Virginia University in Morgantown.

Caroline (pictured left with her acceptance letter to the academy) is the daughter of Brian and Renee Arthur of Wirt county, the granddaughter of Martha Bolinger of Wirt county and Jim and Sue Arthur of Calhoun county.

One-hundred-eighty rising seniors are accepted into the program. Two students are accepted from each county based on an extensive application process including a 500 word essay and approval of the superintendent of schools from each county.

Seventy other students (including career and technical students) are put into a pool and chosen by the Governor's Schools board. This program is completely free to those accepted and is funded by an allowance in the Governor's budget.

Caroline has previously attended Governor's School for the Arts in the area of theatre and since then, having shown an academic interest and achievement, is excited to participate in the West Virginia Governor's Honor Academy of 2011.
