The State Police are continuing to investigate the up-close shooting of a Chloe man Wednesday evening, indicating statements have been taken from witnesses at the scene on Trippett Road, near Big Bend.

The victim, John Dale Cyrus, 45, a WV Department of Highways employee from Chloe, was shot three times with a 9mm pistol at close range by Thomas Lee Husk, 45, of Big Bend.

A criminal complaint says Cyrus approached Husk who was sitting in his car, punching him in the face, just prior to the shots being fired.

Husk has been charged with second degree murder and is being held in Central Regional Jail on $300,000 bond.

The West Virginia State Police Crime Lab, a mobile forensic unit, was on-scene for several hours Wednesday night. Medical Examiner Stacy Harlow responded to the scene, and Cyrus' body was sent to the WV Medical Examiners Office in Charleston.

Funeral arrangements are being completed today for Cyrus at the Stump Funeral Home.

The complaint says Husk returned to his residence on Sugar Camp, accompanied by Cyrus' ex-wife, an adult female and a small child, to discover Cyrus blocking his drive-way, after which Husk drove away, traveling about two miles to a dead-end road where the shooting took place.

Residents told the Herald that the vehicles driven by the men were traveling at a high rate of speed up the primitive road.

Husk told police, according to the complaint, the two had ill-feelings, indicating the problem was related to Cyrus' ex-wife now being Husk's girlfriend.

Cyrus and and his wife divorced in 2006, and he had since remarried.

Reports indicate one or both of men made ill-comments on Facebook.

Both reportedly had concealed weapons permits.
